Louis Sullivan Urns

These functional and decorative urns are replicas of those designed by architect Louis Sullivan in 1913 for the Adams Land & Loan in Algona, IA. RDG Dahlquist Art Studio was commissioned to fabricate them in glazed terra-cotta for the restoration of the building.

You can own one or more of these beautiful garden urns, patterned after the only ornamented exterior urns known in the history of Sullivan’s work. Cast in GFRC (glass-fiber reinforced concrete), this urn is available in three different sizes and colors.

Imagine the possibilities for using this decorative planter in a wide variety of private and public spaces. Whether you use one as a focal point in a garden or many to enhance a streetscape, these urns are a testament to the phrase made famous by Sullivan: "form ever follows function".

Two Louis Sullivan urns flank the entrance to the Adams Land & Loan building.The Adams Land & Loan building in Algona is the third in a series of eight rural, Midwestern banks designed in 1913 by the world famous architect, Louis Sullivan. A pair of terra cotta urns that originally flanked the front door are the only ornamental urns known in the history of Sullivan’s work. RDG Dahlquist Art Studio was commissioned to fabricate replicas of those urns in conjunction with the Louis Sullivan Building Foundation.
